US Virgin Islands – The Department of Sports, Parks, & Recreation, The VI Track & Field Federation, and AAU track and Field hosted the “Under The Sun, Long Jump and Sprint” Clinic. This was the first time for such a collaboration in Track & Field among these entities in the Virgin Islands. VITFF Competition Chairperson, Ileta Potter was quite instrumental in making contact with AAU to bring this about. 

St. Thomas Athletes’ Clinic

Approximately 80 student/athletes from St. Thomas, St. John, and St. Croix took part and were taught by four experienced track and field professionals; including Olympic gold medalists Jason Rouser and LaMont Smith, U.S. and World-ranked long jumper Stanley Holmes, and World Championship long jump silver medalist Jason Grimes. 

  St. Croix Athletes’ Clinic

The Sprints and Long Jump clinics were held on Friday November 11 in St. Thomas and Saturday November 12 on St. Croix.

Athletes were instructed about active warm-up, drills, sprinting form, long jump basics and advanced techniques. Some athletes were also afforded an opportunity to be seen by coaches with links to Division I Universities.

VITFF is thankful for the wonderful clinic presenters, DSPR, parents, and student/athletes for making this an exciting learning three days.
